Some people make using sharpening stones look easy..
Some people make using sharpening stones look easy...I am not one of those people. I have struggled with using stones since the Cub Scout days. This kit makes the task much easier and actually enjoyable because of the superior edge generated. The guide makes all the difference in the world. I have never used one before and it was a bit awkward at first but I have since gotten the hang of it. Great, useful product. A sharp knife is a safe knife!

Excellent guide to knife sharpening, works great
I had never heard of waterstones. The last whet stone I owned was an oil stone, so this was new to me. The stone comes with helpful information pamplet. It is well designed, and I like the sharpening guide piece. I should be adept at sharpening with this stone before the guide becomes worn out. My knives are sharp now, and I should be able to keep them that way for years to come. I like that this is renewable, so you can resurface it when it gets worn unevenly.

Great investment
I've had a sharpening stone for many years, but I could never get the results I needed. Looking it up on the net, I found that it was overall an extremely coarse stone. After looking at many reviews, I chose this one. It is an amazing product. To be honest, this stone exceeds my abilities. As in, I need to practice more because I have apparently developed poor sharpening habits with my inferior stone. It is extremely fine grain, blue = 1000 grit, white - 6000. If you aren't careful, you can actually nick the white side of the stone (no worries, though, because it will even out with further use). I did not find the plastic sharpening guide to be helpful. In fact, I believe that is what caused the nicks in the white side. This may be due to my lack of skill however. This stone must be soaked in water before use. Do NOT use oil.

I love the sharpening stone
Received the stone on time and in good condition. Came in a nicely printed box and all parts were included. Sharpening was quite easy as the guide helps you get familiar with holding the knife blade at a consistent angle. I soaked the stone for 10 minutes prior to use which seemed to aid the cutting process. Water is all that is required. Grit is 1000/6000 which seemed accurate for the stone I received. I got the hang of holding the angle fairly quickly thanks to the included guide and was soon able to "freehand" the process. The bamboo base has a non-slip pad which makes the stone sit a little higher above a table surface and not scoot around as you work. I would highly recommend this water stone for sharpening your kitchen and utility knives

no how-to manual
no user manual. if it wasn't for the product description on amazon there would be no way to learn how to use the stone. I have received a fast response from the seller and am happy with the note. I do think the user manual is something I think others might want, however, the sellers concerns are legitimate, (extra use of paper as an environmental issue). I do suggest a brief how-to printed on the package would be helpful, as well as a web site address, (url), and possibly an email address. As for the product, I cannot fault it. It is an excellent stone and I highly recommend it. And I applaud their customer service. I've changed my initial star rating from three stars to five stars.

sharpened more than a dozen knives in about 90 min
After 4 hours of knife sharpening video training on Youtube, I sharpened 12 dull kitchen knives that sliced through paper swiftly. Go through the learning curve before writing a review, this stuff works but very time consuming dealing with dull blades. Yes, It is durable if you use the entire surface and if it does not sharpen you need to do your home work. There are different knife thickness, angle, curve and height so there is no perfect automated sharpeners that will do a better job than a flat piece of stone, your hands and experience.

Don't hesitate to give this a try!
Great sharpening stone! It has been a while since I have used a whetstone for sharpening but I am so glad I picked this up. Any issues I have had are due to self error and I'm sure after some more practice, these will be remedied. Really nice, sturdy, wooden base with rubber bottom to avoid slipping, another rubber base that straps directly to the stone so it doesn't shift during sharpening, and the stone seems durable as hell so far. The knife guide fits snugly on each kitchen blade I've tried but I tend to use it as a crutch and prefer to leave it off. Again, that is personal preference and has zero to do with design or function.

Ease of use. I am almost a Samurai!
After waking up this morning, taking the dogs out, and starting the coffee pot, I opened up the box of this sharpening stone. I rear the manual, and followed the instructions. I even looked up a random YouTube video from Japan on how to use a similar product as I sipped my coffee... (the stone had already been soaked for 17 minutes in a tub of water). I picked the worst knife we have in the knife block and started working on it... and working on it. Used the blue gritted side first for like, 30 times on each side. Then did the same on the other white side. I took a hard lime out of the fridge (I use them for making mmmmmargaritas after a long bike ride) and decided to cut it up and test the knife's sharpness. I placed the lime on the plastic cutting board, and started cutting. HOLY SMOKES! It cut so easily! So then I cut a tomato and the blade went right in. Not bad for a 5 year-old, $10 knife from Target. Later tonight I will sharpen the other, fancier knifes. Maybe light some candles and listen to Yanni CDs on the old boom box. Adios!

Want Razor Sharp Knifes? Buy This
I'm an avid hunter /fisher with an array of knifes. I purchased this sharping stone on a whim and absolutely love it. My hunting knifes where sharp but after using this stone I can slice a 8x10 sheet a paper with just the weight of the knife. I'm honestly afraid of accidental cuts now they are so sharp. This kit comes with a wooden holder, rubber buffer for the stone and a blade angle tool that works pretty good. The company has great communication. So far so good.
